Trail Closure on Awendaw Passage

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities

Maintaining the Trail requires a huge amount of help, and we cherish those individuals and groups that assist.  We can arrange a one-time opportunity for groups ranging from scouts to clubs to corporate work-day participants.  Tasks range from simple litter clean-up efforts to vegetation and tree trimming to construction or repair of structures such as boardwalks and small bridges.

Passage Monitor

Trail Monitors are the eyes and ears of the Palmetto Trail.
Monitors are responsible for surveying designated passages for maintenance needs or issues that need to be addressed. These reports are then passed along to our Trail Coordinators who work with trail volunteers to make improvements.

Palmetto Conservation Corps

About the Corps

The Palmetto Conservation Corps, South Carolina’s only trail-based state AmeriCorps Program, develops the conservation leaders of tomorrow through service and education, strengthens partnerships that address environmental challenges, and cultivates civically engaged citizens.
It began in 2016 as a way to develop conservation leaders while building and maintaining the Palmetto Trail.  Today the Corps also works on other public lands, in communities, and with various organizations throughout the state. In addition, the Corps is trained in disaster preparedness and can provide relief in the event of a statewide disaster.

PCC Projects

The Corps is trained in trail construction, maintenance, and reconstruction, and this forms a large percentage of the projects conducted across South Carolina. The Palmetto Trail remains one of the Corps’ premiere projects in trail construction and maintenance, but work with Trail partners in state and national parks and forests remains a priority, as do partnerships with private sponsors.  Corps members have assisted with maintenance in local parks, and on short locally managed trails.
